Anti-Trump Rally to Be Held at Old Town Gazebo Tonight

UPDATE, 2:40 p.m.: The organizers of the "United We Stand" rally that was scheduled to take place at the Old Town Gazebo tonight at 6 p.m. called The Outpost to tell us that they are canceling the event due to online backlash and for fear that such an event would lead to violence.

Original Post: As we enter day two of the great yuck, tens of thousands of Americans across the country who cannot accept the outcome of Tuesday's election have taken to the streets to reject Donald Trump, often with chants of "Not My President." Numerous protesters gathered outside Trump's properties nationwide. Closest to Humboldt, around 7,000 people marched in Oakland. Thirty were arrested.

Thursday evening, locals disappointed with Trump's election will gather for a "United We Stand" rally at The Gazebo in Eureka's Old Town. The following is from the Facebook event description penned by organizers:

We will join hands, share our reactions to the election, pledge our mutual and continuing support, and resolve to forge ahead together in this pivotal moment. We have experienced setbacks before, and we have always come back. Our movements are resilient and unstoppable. Please bring candles, signs, family, friends, and colleagues.

The gathering is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Other Thursday night events in your Lowdown listings below. --Andrew Goff
