Foot Percussion Workshops

Hosted by New York resident Liana Gabel Beginning Thursday, November 3 and continuing through November 17, New York dancer Liana Gabel will conduct a weekly foot percussion workshop. All levels and ages are welcome. Classes will include basic tap dance steps and vocabulary, with new steps featured each week. Students will also explore keeping a groove, singing while tapping, and improvising simple rhythms over music. Tap shoes are not required, but are fun to have. Bring a pair of shoes with leather soles or old sneakers – tacks can be attached to the bottom, and loaner pairs of tap shoes will be available. Ms. Gabel began singing and tap dancing at the age of three. She has studied classical voice as a high soprano, jazz vocal performance, and now studies American tap dance with her teacher, master tap dancer Brenda Buffalino in the Hudson Valley. For the past five years Liana has been writing music that incorporates both singing and tap dancing. She is looking forward to sharing her joyful explorations of song and rhythm with Fortuna!
