Rise Up on the Arcata Plaza This Afternoon

As Humboldt inches toward the only day out of the year when love is officially sanctioned, another recent local tradition returns today to inspire our community.

For the past several years, sometime around Valentine’s Day, the Arcata Plaza has exploded with flash mobbish drumming, dancing, poetry, speakers and all around good vibes as part of VDay Humboldt’s version of the global One Billion Rising movement. Do you like joy? Well, then take a long lunch break and boogie to central Arcata today before 2:14 p.m. and behold countless local youth jubilantly standing up against violence toward women.

For an example of what this might look like, make the YouTube clip of last year's gathering below play (but really you should just go see it live).
