Lowdown: Deaf Superhero Signs His Way Onto The Minor's Movie Screen Tonight

Deaf actor John Maucere has landed small roles in numerous television shows over his career — “Law and Order,” “Parker Kane,” and “Pacific Blue,” to name a few — and has performed as a signer to the stars, notably at the Super Bowl with Alicia Keys.

But to legions of youthful hearing impaired fans, Maucere is best known SuperDeafy, a superhero whose goal is to make the world safer for similarly affected kids.

Thursday night at The Minor in Arcata, Humboldt’s hard of hearing and ASL communities are hosting a screening of No Ordinary Hero: The SuperDeafy Movie, the first film in Screen Actors Guild history to be produced exclusively by deaf producers. Check out a trailer for the film below, or peruse the rest of Thursday’s public gatherings in your Lowdown listings farther down.
