Lowdown: Your Complete List of Mad River Festival Events

Pack up some folding chairs, roll up a blanket and head for 299. 'Tis outdoor theatre season, Humboldt.

Thursday marks the beginning of Dell'Arte International's Mad River Festival. The month long celebration of the arts -- featuring plays, music, comedy and more -- has been adding actual color to Blue Lake since 1991. (The "lake" on the other hand, has really phoned it in.) • The Comedy of Errors, June 20-July 7: The Bard gets Humboldtized! Set in a place much like the Arcata Plaza, at an event much like the Farmers Market, Dell'Arte puts an original twist on Shakespeare's outrageous farce.
• Between the Lines, June 21 and 22: Get tumboldt! An international cast of Dell'Arte graduates come together to weave classic circus skills such as hand-balancing, tumbling, and equilibrium into dramatic and comic stories of human interaction.
• IN'Tents, June 29 and 30: This one's for the kids. Pitch a tent with Park Ranger Patricia Pinky and her bumbling assistant Frumpsie, as they learn the ways of nature through soaring misadventures.
• Lifetime Achievement Award Dinner, June 29: This year's honoree is Jane Hill who, with her late husband Carlo Mazzone-Clementi, founded Dell'Arte in Berkeley in 1971.
• Red Light in Blue Lake, July 5 and 6: Blue Lake gets red hot. A saucy, late-night cabaret for adults featuring wild acts, burlesque, music and more. Mature audiences and stuff.
• The Submarine Show, July 11-14: Two men crash their submarine on bottom of the sea. Hilarity ensues.
• Annie and Mary Day, July 14: The city of Blue Lake's annual town festival features tons of music, a parade, fiddle contest, bocce ball tournament and much more.
• Humboldt Folklife Festival, July 15-20: A week's worth of musical events culminates with the ginormous free all-day festival on July 20. Not to be missed.
