(VIDEO) It is Once Again Time For Fortunans to Beat One Another Over the Head

Friday is Motorsports Night at the Fortuna Rodeo Grounds and, as shocking as it may seem, there are still some people who are unfamiliar with the night's main attraction, Quadiators. How can this be?

Let LoCO help. A proud Eel River Valley tradition, the human Mario Kart spectacle that is Quadiators is, perhaps, Fortuna's greatest contribution to earth. Over the years, LoCO has explained this phenomenon to newbies so many times that we’re just gonna go ahead and quote ourselves. What is Quadiators?:

Teams of two will mount ATVs. One teammate will be the designated driver (not in the traditional sense, but we assume they will be sober) while the other stands on the back equipped with a whiffle ball bat with a balloon taped securely to their helmet. You with us so far? Multiple teams will then proceed to drive in a circle simultaneously and attempt to pull close enough to their competitors to allow for bat-induced balloon popping, i.e. they’re swinging bats at each other’s (helmeted) heads. Last balloon standing wins. There are multiple heats. Eventually, a champion is crowned.

 This is known as fun.

Above are words. But why word when you can video. Witness Quadiators below!

Are you not entertained?! Anyway, that's happening tonight. More details on Motorsports Night in your Lowdown listings south of here. Also note that the annual Humboldt Folklife Festival Barn Dance will dosey-do it up at the Arcata Veteran's Hall.

All the Friday joy below. --AG
