Woodstock. You’ve heard of this thing, yes? History tells us a bunch of hippies made a pilgrimage to upstate New York and got muddy while listening to the same bands Humboldtians hear on KWPT The Point 100.3/102.7 each day. It was all very retro (but that word had not been invented yet).
Fast forward 47 years. All of the musicians who played at Woodstock have been bronzed and are featured in an exhibit at the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame, right? You are very wrong! Not only are some of Woodstock’s alum still living, breathing humans, one of those bands is playing in Humboldt Country Saturday night!
(Drum roll)... Canned Heat! Even if you’re not aware, you absolutely know Canned Heat songs. Make with the clicky on one of the two video links below.
Try not to hum those songs all day now. You will fail. But luckily there is a procedure available to you that will (eventually) remove those ear worms from your noggin. You gotta head up to Blue Lake Casino Saturday night for KWPT The Point's 10th Birthday Bash. Canned Heat will be there as will local The Beatles tribute band Silver Hammer, winners of the 2016 Classic Cover Contest.
The '60s are alive and rocking out in Blue Lake. For more details and/or to buy tickets to Canned Heat, go here. Less rockin' options in your Saturday Lowdown listings below. --AG
