Thursday's Lowdown: ATL's Mediterranean Dance Party and Humboldt Loses a Musical Force to Cancer

Your Lost Coast Outpost is going to assume you haven't been out to any Mediterranean electronic Gypsy punk shows yet this week. That being the case, we're going to go ahead and steer you toward Balkan Beat Box, who will sweatily dance with you at the Arcata Theatre Lounge Thursday night. (In the event, you have been to such a show recently, well geez, please tell us where in the county these things are going on already.)

BBB are nearing a decade of moving feet/butts with their particular brand of high-energy world music. The group's core members, all Isreali-born, are founders Ori Kaplan (one-time member of Gogol Bordello) Tamir Muskat (he was in Firewater) and frontman Tomer Yosef. The group is currently touring on their most politically charged album to date, 2012's harder-edged Give. Go ahead and sample the video for a track from that collection, "Suki Muki," below.

In local music scene news, word is going around Facebook today that Riverwood Inn music booker and party chick Loreen Eliason succumbed to her battle with lung cancer. She made Phillipsville rock, no small task.

RIP.
