Monday night provides Humboldt its latest example of the “PDX/SF Midway Advantage” our fair county benefits from now and again. You're likely familiar. This is the phenomena that occurs when a road trippin' band has dates scheduled in Portland and San Francisco — at venues where they’ll often play for a couple hundred people, mind you — with some days in the middle. Enterprising musicians will then pull out the ol’ roadmap and say to themselves “Uh, the dot for Eureka is bigger than many of the other dots. You guys wanna?” This is how they end up playing at the Lil’ Red Lion for 15 people, which may not be what they were expecting. But it's great for you! Unlike at this group's other shows, no one is gonna spill beer on your shirt as they crowd by to get to the stage. Sweet HumCo livin'.
So who’s our latest get? Aha! In the below YouTube clip, you will note that the art-rock band Bent Knee — tonight’s Lil’ Red overachievment — performed at the prestigious Berklee School of Music at some point. And tonight you can shoot pool ten feet in front of them. BK will share the bill with local bands The Tweeners and The Fairy Rings. Not too shabby. #EurekaRising
