Tuesday Lowdown: Smooth Jazz for NoHum, Daring Acrobatics for SoHum

Relax, you. For this Humboldt Tuesday’s best ear caress, transport thy drums up to the Van Duzer Theatre where Grammy Award-winning jazz crooner and Gregory Porter and hat will be disseminating aural smoothness aplenty. Listen to the title track from Liquid Spirit — AKA the 2014 Best Jazz Vocal Album — above.

For a very different experience, those who prefer their performing arts to fill you with tension should set coordinates for the Mateel Community Center for a white-knuckle-inducing performance from The Peking Acrobats. “They perform daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs; they are experts at treacherous feats of daring, trick-cycling, precision tumbling, somersaulting, and gymnastics. They defy gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control.” You want that.
