Mike Watson (Sun RA Arkestra) plays with Medicine BAUL

Bass clarinetist Watson was first inspired by the beauty and range of that horn's sound in the hands of Eric Dolphy, its greatest master, and holds a deep love for the obscure compositions of Thelonious Monk. Trained and encouraged by Marshall Allen, among Sun Ra's foremost students and creator of the avant-garde saxophone style.Watson uses the bass clarinet for intergalactic travel to other worlds. He has participated in Philadelphia's free jazz scene for over a decade, striving toward the Unknown Myth. Watson plays in the Sun Ra Arkestra and has performed with other luminaries such as William Parker, Daniel Carter, Dave Burrell, Bobby Zankel, and King Britt.
