From the band: "Kindred Spirits is an acoustic roots band founded in Humboldt County’s community of Fieldbrook in 2008 by Sunny and former mandolin player, Turtle. Playing a large repertoire of both traditional and original tunes, Kindred Spirits takes from the bluegrass, folk, and blues traditions. Poignant vocals and stretched out instrumentals characterize Kindred Spirits sound, which traverses the landscapes crossed by the likes of Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash and the Grateful Dead, with occasional reggae rhythms. The current line-up features Sunny on Guitar and harmonica, Lizard on Bass, Adam Canter on banjo (joined 2009), Candas Wase on mandolin (joined 2010), Rick Bitter on rhythm guitar and sometimes bass (joined 2011). Sunny and Adam hail from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, long known for its rich musical heritage which influenced them both at an early age. Famous for its acoustic energy as the house band at the Clam Beach Inn every Thursday night, Kindred Spirits makes its rounds on the NorHum circuit. From raucous fast bluegrass, to contemplative ballads, and far out jams, Kindred Spirits covers ground that reveals our kindredness through music." Our take: These guys seriously kick butt. Super fun west coast style bluegrass and roots, played by talented musicians, having fun at a venue they once called home. They're returning back to play one more show at Redwood Curtain, come on down and check 'em out, this will be fun!
