Vivian Dawn Spear: For this series I took inspiration from classic works throughout the feminist oeuvre, and put them through a modern trans-feminist lens. Many of these works are not even originally by women so I wanted to reclaim them, not just for women but specifically for trans women, who are so often left out of the feminist canon. By creating these inspired self-portraits I am inserting myself into women’s history, while asserting my place here and now.
Emily Rune: I am moved to uncover a collective and personal mythology through intuitive line-making and storytelling. Using repurposed materials is an important part of my practice. Utilizing potentials in “old” things can bridge the gap between then and now. Sustainably-minded art is my gift and duty to this time and place. I hope you find rest here.
