Dr. Ethan Russo Lecture

The community is invited to a talk at 5 p.m. Friday September 15 at Founders Hall Room 118 on the Cal Poly Humboldt Campus in Arcata by Dr. Ethan Russo, one of the world’s most renowned applied medical cannabis researchers, scholars, and popular educators.

The lecture is titled “Cannabis in Context: How its History Informs Modern Therapeutics.”
Dr. Russo will be talking about how the deep ethnobotanical past of the plant informs modern therapeutics.

His lecture is the first annual Distinguished Cannabis Lecture for the Cal Poly Humboldt Cannabis Studies major, launching the program as a “whole plant, whole society” vehicle for stewarding cannabis legalization towards communitarian and ecological values.
Russo is a past president of the International Cannabinoid Research Center; four-time keynote for the Center for the Study of Cannabis and Social Policy’s popular education and whole plant cannabis cups, the Terpestival; and past clinical trial researcher for GW Pharmaceuticals.

Known world-wide for coining the term “entourage effect,” Russo has played a key role advocating for Cannabis as an herbal medicine with a strong focus on terpenoid science. His deep love for plants drives his focus on whole-plant cannabinoid medicine. We are thrilled to welcome him to campus and grateful to create a space free of stigma about one of the most useful plants in global history.

The talk is sponsored by Cannabis Studies, the Department of Sociology, the Humboldt Institute for Interdisciplinary Marijuana Research, and the Center for the Study of Cannabis and Social Policy.
