Every once in a while, someone will ask me what I do for a living and I'll tell them, "I'm a DJ on KHUM". And they'll say, "Wow. Isn't that scary," and then I have to sit in a dimly lit room in absolute silence for several days until I stop hyperventilating.
But it’s also a lot of fun and a great honor to be on this, one of the last DJ-driven, free-form radio stations left in the country. If absolute freedom can be terrifying – and it can – it can also be liberating. Freed from the constraints of a playlist, KHUM listeners will, on any given day, hear a range of music that most radio professionals will tell you just can’t work on a commercial station. And they may be right about my show, but the other DJs do a great job.
I love being a KHUM diskjockey and I'll do it until either the management or you, the listener, wises up.
You can hear the fear in my voice Monday - Saturday form 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. (And don't forget to tune in to the legendary "Cocktail Hour", every Tuesday night from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.)
