Zero Waste Speaker
Margaret (Maggie) Gainer will make a presentation titled, “Zero Waste.” at the North Coast Mensa public forum at noon Saturday (Aug. 25) at the Samoa Cookhouse. She will discuss ways to reduce waste levels. There will be time for questions. Lunch is no-host. Gainer has worked in the waste reduction field and recycling industry since 1977. She advises businesses, government agencies and schools to adopt waste prevention methods. She directed the Office for Economic & Community Development and has served on several local boards, the Arcata Planning Commission, and was active in the formation of the Humboldt Film Commission, Humboldt Made, and co-founded Zero Waste Humboldt. She served on the National Recycling Coalition board of directors and received the California Resource Recovery Association Recycler of the Year Award. She is president of the Bayside Community Hall board of directors.
