Understanding Islam: A Community Conversation

Third in the series Understanding Islam. Speakers will include Rev. Molly Cate from Unity Church of the Redwoods, Imam Emran Essa of the Islamic Center of Arcata, and members of the local Muslim community. There will be a Q&A following the talks. Facilitator Rabbi Naomi Steinberg comments, “This is a great opportunity for people to learn about how the religion of Islam is practiced here in Humboldt County. We plan to have ample time for questions as well as smaller group discussions.” Rev. Molly Cate is principal speaker and often soloist for Unity Church of the Redwoods in Eureka, CA. She has a Master’s degree in Consciousness Studies from Holmes Institute School of Consciousness Studies in Santa Rosa, one in Sociology from the University of California, Davis, and several certificates in Cross-Cultural Competence. She is passionate about bridging the barriers between people holding clashing belief systems. Imam Emran Essa was born in Damascus, Syria and has been a resident of Humboldt County for more than 30 years. He is the imam (person who leads prayers in a mosque) and president of the Islamic Center of Arcata. He also owns the Arcata business, Desserts On Us, which makes Lacey's cookies.
