Twister (1996)
27 years after a tornado sucked up her hapless father into oblivion, storm chaser Jo Harding (Helen Hunt) and former storm chaser now weather man/soon to be ex-husband Bill Harding (Bill Paxton) have been developing DOROTHY, a gizmo designed to release thousands of tiny sensors into a tornado in hope that the information will provide insight into the nature of windstorms. Meanwhile, the villianous Dr. Jonas Miller (Carey Elwes) has built a similar machine. After Bill’s career change syphons the passion from their marriage, they separate. Time passes and he and Jo are reunited during the worst tornado season in history when Bill asks Jo to sign divorce papers. A tornado is spotted and with little hesitation, Bill rejoins the mad rush in time. As they storms get worse and the race with Miller gets more intense Joe and Bill face dangers together and and find renewed love. Also starring a young Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
