The Man I Love (1947)
On a holiday visit to her family in the waning days of World War II, torch singer Petey Brown expects a merry Christmas. Instead she gets a tangled web of mobsters, cheating wives, war traumatized vets and the kind of love that grabs hold fast and goes wrong faster. Notable for its songbook of sophisticated standards and for being the inspiration for Martin Scorsese's film New York, New York.
Starring Ida Lupino, Robert Alda, and Bruce Bennett. Directed by Raoul Walsh. Based on the novel Night Shift by Maritta M. Wolff.
