The Birds and Bees Educational Series

Humboldt Botanical Garden’s butterfly house is a pilot project that began in May of 2017 to determine if such a thing is feasible for the Garden’s future. It occupies the northwest quadrant of the Sun Valley Floral Farms Greenhouse. Landscaped with water feature, stone walkway and butterfly friendly plants, the habitat currently houses Monarchs, Western Swallowtails and Red Admirals.

This talk/tour of the butterfly house will emphasize making a home garden butterfly friendly with food, water and shelter. All stages of butterfly life, eggs, caterpillars, chrysalids and butterflies are available for observation. Terry Kramer, a staff member of the HBG team since 2009, helped create the butterfly house.

The program will run from 10:00 –12:00 beginning with a special performance by the AllStar Theatre Arts ALLSTARS. Coffee and refreshments will be served.

General garden admission. Members are free.

This Series is made possible through a grant by the McLean Foundation. The Humboldt Botani-cal Gardens is partnering with the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge to present monthly educational programs titled “The Birds and Bees Educational Series” focusing on plants, animals and insects of the North Coast Region.
