The Clarke Historical Museum, the Humboldt County Historical Society, and the Humboldt County Library invite you to join us for our next Saturday Speaker Series presentation on May 4th, 2024. This month's guest speaker is author and science columnist for the North Coast Journal, Barry Evans.

Barry brings his passion for railroads and historical exploration to life in this illustrated talk. Drawing from his firsthand experiences and discoveries made during a hike into the Sinkyone Wilderness, Barry will guide us through the story of the Bear Harbor Railroad with intriguing insights and vivid imagery.

Barry will guide us through the fascinating narrative of the Bear Harbor Railroad, an 18-mile-long railway that took folks on a bold journey from Bear Harbor to Andersonia (near Piercy). Despite lofty ambitions to connect with a line from San Francisco Bay to Eureka, this endeavor was full of both triumphs and tragedies, predominantly the latter. Discover the dreams, challenges, and remnants of this ambitious-but-doomed project that has left an indelible mark on Northern California's history.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the mysteries of the Bear Harbor Railroad and gain a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of our #HumboldtHistory. We look forward to welcoming you on May 4th for an afternoon of exploration.

The Saturday Speaker series is a collaboration between the Clarke Historical Museum, Humboldt County Library, and the Humboldt County Historical Society. It is made possible by our generous sponsors, The Cutting Edge Hair Salon and Carl Johnson Company. Admission to this event is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. We hope you will join us for this exciting presentation.
