Noah Siegel, coauthor of “Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast,” will highlight some of the common species of truffles and how to find and identify them. California has an amazing diversity of hypogeous fungi (truffles and false truffles), and was the birthplace of North American truffle taxonomy. Although truffles are renowned for their culinary properties, very few species are highly prized edibles.
