Humboldt Folklife Festival Kickoff

Please join the Humboldt Folklife Society in kicking off the week-long Folklife Festival!

Music starts at 6pm with The Spindrifters, followed by Clean Livin'! Come on out for the first of many nights of great music.

The Spindrifters, originally a three piece band, consists of Tom Pexton (banjo), Joe Settelmayer (guitar), and Brian Powell (bass) was founded in Fieldbrook around 2006. Recently they have added the percussion Michael Luhrs of Kneeland and snare drum of Chris Appleton also of Fieldbrook. They play a wide variety of folk and Americana roots music, from Carter Family to Hank Williams. Tom and Joe are also very talented song writers providing a large selection of original songs and borrowing original songs written by close friends. They rarely travel very far from Fieldbrook and Blue Lake to share their music and love playing for our community at the Fieldbrook Market and Mad River Brewery.

Clean Livin' was formed in 2004, and originally featured Judy Hageman and Brooks Otis, fiddles; Michael Walker and Jim Cornwell, guitars; Darren Weiss, mandolin; and Gary Grounds, acoustic bass. The current Clean Livin' band consists of Gary Grounds, Michael Walker, and Michael Proctor on Dobro. Darren Weiss and Michael Donovan (fiddle) join the core trio when they can. Clean Livin' got its name from being the house band at "Bubbles" for Arts! Arcata. The band has always played traditional bluegrass music.

See you at the Kick-off!
