HSU Faculty Artist Series: Welcome Concert

An early evening concert brings together members of the HSU Music Faculty and various musicians from the community, while it also strives to draw together the campus community and the Humboldt community at large in celebration of local talent and the work of some of music's great composers. The Welcome Concert is always one of the most eclectic and delightful concerts of the semester, and this one will be no exception. The repertoire includes "Suite for Voice and Violin" by Villa-Lobos, a duet for two pianos by Piazzolla called "Libertango," the first movement of "Sonata in e minor" for cello and piano by Brahms, a Strayhorn arrangement of Duke Ellington's "Daydream," "Duets for Tuba" by Torchinsky, and the fourth movement of the "String Quartet in a minor" by Mendelssohn. Several compositions by local composers are also featured, including "Trio for clarinet, violin, and piano" by John Chernoff, Divertimento No. 2, Op. 194 by Michael Kibbe, a Brian Post arrangement of Chick Corea's "Children's Songs," and a duet for alto and baritone saxophones called "Birds of a Feather" by Kyle McInnis. Performers include Daniela Mineva, Chuang Li, Brian Post, Karen Davy, Garrick Woods, Sherry Hansen, Gil Cline, Fred Tempas, Cindy Moyer, Virginia Ryder, Kyle McInnis, Paul Cummings, Michael Kibbe, Jill Petricca, Aaron Lopez, Annika Backstrom, The Vipisa Trio, and the Arcata Bay String Quartet. Saturday, September 9 at 5:00 p.m. in Fulkerson Recital Hall. $10 General, $5 Senior/Child, $5 for HSU students with ID.
