Gender Blender Ice Cream Social
In association with Queer Humboldt and the GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) club of Arcata High School, Apprentice Entertainment presents: The Gender Blender Ice Cream Social. The Gender Blender Ice Cream Social is a fun and informative event to bring awareness to the many issues that come with gender identity. There will be ice cream provided by The Scoop, a live DJ and places to lie about and play board games. Come dressed up or not. This project has been in the works for a while now, inspired by Apprentice Entertainment member Melissa, who wanted a fun place to address gender controversies and combine that with some delicious ice cream. At first, some of the teens mentioned that they didn’t know if a “gender blender” was the right way to address our event but after hashing out the idea with members of the LGBTQ community, we all thought it was great! “We just wanted a fun place for people of all gender identities to come and hang out, be themselves, and eat some darn good ice cream,” exclaims Neroli, one of our longest Apprentice Entertainment members. Matt Craghead, designer of our Gender Blender poster, comments, “I think this is gonna be a great event! Dancing, games, and ice cream! Who wouldn’t be excited?" Apprentice Entertainment is a non-profit organization run by teenagers of Humboldt County who put on all ages events in the local area that are fun for other teenagers to attend. Their mission is to enrich the Humboldt County underage audience with fine arts and quality entertainment. http://www.arcataplayhouse.org/teen_program Queer Humboldt is an organization dedicated to providing resources for the queer community. Started in 2004 by Todd Larsen and Michael Weiss, they were making the move from Southern California to Humboldt and realized there really wasn’t a strong queer group in Humboldt county. Since then, Michael and Todd have been working very hard to make sure their are good opportunities for the queer community in Humboldt. Check out their facebook page for more info. Together, these organizations are working together to bring you not only an event where you can express and embrace your individuality, but also a place to get together and eat some fantastic ice cream provided by Arcata Scoop!
