Free the Poets Series

The Humboldt County Library's "Free the Poets!" series will bring a controversial voice to the North Coast next week. On March 26, the Library will host Kentucky native CD Collins, whose new album Clean Coal / Big Lie tackles the issue of large-scale coal removal on the east coast. The performance is free to attend, and it will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Collins' live performance features songs and spoken-word pieces that are inspired by the heart of Appalachia, its troubles, characters and what she describes as its ineffable, endangered beauty. She has performed at the Boston Public Library, Club Passim, and Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art. She has also been a guest of the New York Public Library and Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.

Find out more about Collins and hear mp3 samples of her work at cdcollins.com. She will also visit the Arcata Library on Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m. and the Fortuna Library on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m.

The Library's "Free the Poets!" series will continue each Tuesday night through April 8. Visit www.humlib.org to find out more. Below is a schedule of upcoming performances:
