Forest Management & Restoration Hike
Join Sanctuary Forest and the Humboldt Redwood Company on Saturday, August 10th for the Forestry Management & Restoration Hike, as we take a look at contemporary forestry practices as applied in the Lawrence Creek watershed, a tributary of the Van Duzen River. Led by Mike Miles of HRC, Tim Metz of Restoration Forestry, Inc. and Eric Stockwell, a local fishing guide and fish surveyor, we will examine recent timber harvest activities and over a decade of stream restoration work including important off-channel habitat projects along Lawrence Creek. Subjects will include forest management, silviculture and logging methods, habitat conservation, stream restoration and fire resilient forest strategies. This hike will be approximately 3.5 miles in length and of moderate difficulty. Please bring a lunch, water and dress in layers and sturdy shoes. Please meet at 9:00am at the Carlotta Grange parking lot on Highway 36 (mile marker 4.11), adjacent to Yager Creek, the hike will end by 4pm. There will be an opportunity to carpool. Please bring a high-clearance 4-wheel drive vehicle if you are able. This hike is free of charge, though donations are gladly accepted.
