Explore North Coast Lecture Series

Explore North Coast invites the public to their free ENC Lecture Series featuring Dr. Brian Tissot, Director of the Humboldt State University Marine Lab on Monday March 14th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Humboldt Bay AquaticCenter, 921,Waterfront Drive, Eureka. The title of Dr. Tissot’s presentation is “ Update on Marine Research and Ocean Conditions on the North Coast.” His talk will describe ongoing marine research projects conducted by HSU’s faculty and students, including an update on the sea star wasting disease, studies on the harmful algal blooms that are affecting the crab fishery, and our unusual ocean conditions. He will use an El Nino Map to show the extent of the algal bloom. Dr Tissot will also discuss a recent rare sighting of a sea snake off of the Southern CA Coast. Tissot Biography Dr. Brian Tissot is a marine ecologist with experience conducting research in intertidal zone, kelp forest, coral reef, and deep-reef ecosystems. He received his BS in Biology from Cal Poly (SLO), his MS in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from UC Irvine, and his Ph.D. in Zoology from Oregon State University. He has held faculty positions at the University of Hawaii and Washington State University and currently serves as the Director of the Marine Laboratory at Humboldt State University.
