Redwood Hike to Big Tree Wayside Area

May 7th, 2017 Redwood Hike to Big Tree Wayside: Cathedral Tree Foothill Trail Loop

Join EPIC staff on a hike through an enchanting forest landscape watched over by towering giants. The stunning old growth and moderate trail makes The Foothill Trail Loop on the most popular hiking spots in the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. We wil be visiting some of our favorite trees, such as the notable Cathedral Tree, and the remarkably large Big Tree of Wayside. Soaring to a height of 304 ft, you'll have a difficult time seeing the top of The Big Tree itself, but with a circumference of 68 feet, it won't be difficult to appreciate its size and beauty.

This 5 mile loop is well-maintained trail and designed to be accessible to almost anyone. However, it does get steep as we get closer to Big Tree Wayside, so please come prepared with water and hiking shoes.

Meet-up is at the EPIC office in Arcata, located at 145 G Street, Suite A, at 9 a.m. As always, if you come, please be prepared for our local conditions and for the conditions generally found in our forests. Please wear appropriate clothing and foot ware, bring food, and water, and anything else you may need to be comfortable and safe in the forest. There is a strict NO DOGS rule in place for all our 2017 Redwood Hikes series, so please leave your companions at home.

For further information, or to RSVP, please call the EPIC office at: 707-822-7711 or email rob@wildcalifornia.org
