My Man Godfrey is based on the novel titled 1101 Park Avenue by Eric Hatch. In the depths of the Depression, dizzy socialite Irene Bullock hires the down-and-out Godfrey as the butler to her wildly eccentric family. Soon, the dramatizing Irene is in love with her "protégé"...who feels strongly that a romance between servant and employer is out of place, regardless of that servant's mysterious past.
