Children's Author Festival
Humboldt County Children’s Author Festival Returns!
Unique local festival celebrates its 50th birthday
• Public book sale and autographing session at Eureka Branch of Humboldt County Library Saturday, October 19 from 10 am to 2 pm
Between October 17 and 19, the beloved author festival will be sending twenty-five acclaimed authors to schools across the county and bringing them together for a public book sale and autograph signing party at the Eureka Branch of the Humboldt County Library.
Started in 1974 by local children’s librarians and considered the longest-running festival of its kind, the Humboldt County Children’s Author Festival has been delighting local students and encouraging literacy for fifty years. The 2024 Festival theme is Happy Birthday to celebrate this momentous milestone.
Every two years, the Festival invites authors from around the country to participate in a uniquely-formatted event. Run entirely by volunteers and funded by donations, the festival sends authors to schools all across the county to meet and speak with students in even our most remote and sparsely-populated communities. This offers the young people in our county the opportunity to engage fully with reading, writing, and illustration through the power of meeting the people who create the books they love.
The public is invited to visit the Humboldt Arts Council’s exhibition of select works from participating authors in the Youth Gallery on the ground floor of the Morris Graves Museum of Art throughout the month of October. The Eureka Branch of the Humboldt County Library will also be hosting a special display of posters and memorabilia commemorating the fifty years the festival has served the children of Humboldt County.
On Saturday, October 19 from 10 am to 2 pm, participating authors will be at the Eureka Branch of the Humboldt County Library for a special public book sale and autographing session.
