Caverns and Cows

For July and August, the Fire Arts Center Gallery is exhibiting the works of members Jessica Friedlander and Vanessa Veck. The artists are hosting a reception on Friday, August 9th 5-7pm during Arts!Arcata. Friedlander describes herself as an “autistic creative.” Her themes spring from her early love of classical mythology, social justice and her delight with the comically absurd. Her current work explores mother goddesses. Many of her figures are representative of cows and other animal f igures. Veck’s works are a study on the nature of changing states: capturing delicacy, movement and disintegration. Her exploration of textures and caverns serves an an invitation to return to our senses. “I take great joy in observing the natural world, experimenting with different creative mediums, and quieting the mind” Fire Arts, located at 520 S. G Street in Arcata, across from the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center, has been teaching ceramics and fused glass skills and providing studio space and kiln firing resources to the local community since 2000. Fire Arts is open every day and has a large selection of locally-made ceramic and fused glass pieces for sale all year. Classes are held yearround and include day and evening classes for adults and children. Contact: (707)826-1445 and www.fireartsarcata.com.
