The program for the evening includes a performance of Whisper Not—One of the best known compositions of composer and tenor saxophonist Benny Golson, who passed away in September at the age of 95. Golson originally wrote Whisper Not for the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, and that is the arrangement the orchestra is playing. Whisper Not was subsequently adapted by a number of different small jazz groups and is today a jazz standard. Our performance will feature solos by Chris Cox, trumpet; Luke Faulder, alto sax; John Gerving, piano; and Mathias Severn, tenor sax.

B. and Me—Composed by Doug Davis, former director of Jazz Studies at CSU Bakersfield and dedicated to his friend, tenor saxophonist Bennie Wallace. This will feature solos by Chris Cox, trumpet and Ricardo Paredes, alto sax.

Old School—Composed and recorded by Trinidadian trumpeter Etienne Charles on his recent album Creole Orchestra. It's a calypso and features trumpeter Chris Cox, along with solos by tenor saxophonist Mathias Severn and pianist John Gerving.

Everything in its Right Place—the Radiohead tune adapted for jazz orchestra by James Miley. Features tenor saxophonist Mathias Severn.

Pianitis—written by the great Cuban-American composer and arranger Chico O'Farrill. Features pianist John Gerving.

Mama G—an early tune by the greatest jazz composer of the last 60+ years, Wayne Shorter, who died last year. This arrangement was written for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra by one of the J@LCO's trombonists, Chris Crenshaw. The performance will feature solos by Mathias Severn, tenor sax; Chris Cox, trumpet; and Lily Storseth, trombone.

The penultimate performance of the program will be the The Good Trouble Suite—composed by Matt Wilson and arranged for big band by Jeff Lederer. The suite is in three movements. The first, "RBG", is dedicated to the late Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and features solos by Ricardo Paredes and Luke Faulder, alto saxes; and Evan Jackson on bass trombone. The second movement, "Walk With The Wind", takes its title from the memoir of the late civil rights leader, Congressman John Lewis, called Walking with the Wind, and is dedicated to Congressman Lewis. The final movement, "Good Trouble" draws its title from Lewis's famous quote, "Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble." It will feature drummer Gavin Kingsley; tenor saxophonist Mathias Severn; and trombonists Lily Storseth and Raymond Endert.

The Orchestra will end the evening in festive style, performing Jingle Bells—the holiday classic in an arrangement written for the Duke Ellington Orchestra by Billy Strayhorn. The performance will feature solos by John Gerving, piano; Nate Heron, trombone; True LaBoissonniere, alto sax; Mathias Severn, tenor sax; and Ricardo Paredes, clarinet.
