Arcata Mobilehome Affordibility Community Meeting
The Arcata Community Development Department will hold a mobilehome park affordability meeting at the D Street Neighborhood Center on Friday, June 24 at 5:30 p.m. Park residents and other concerned citizens will have a chance to let the City staff know about their needs, help the City gather much-needed demographic data by taking a survey, and learn about the City’s developing affordability strategy.
At a November 2015 meeting, mobilehome park residents told the Arcata City Council about their fears of rapidly escalating rents and asked the City to intervene. The Council directed the Community Development Department to explore the full range of available affordability strategies. Getting direct feedback from people affected by this situation is critical to developing an affordability strategy for Arcata. The Community Development Department staff encourages people to come to the June 24 meeting to tell the City staff about their concerns. Bus transportation will be available for mobilehome park residents who wish to attend.
In June, the City will survey Arcata mobilehome park residents so those who are unable to attend the public meeting can also share their ideas. The City urges everyone who receives a survey by mail to return their completed survey or follow the listed link to participate in the survey online.
Finding an effective affordable housing solution in our local mobilehome market depends upon hearing from a full spectrum of opinions on this topic. The meeting and survey are opportunities for people to have a real and lasting impact in this community. The Community Development Department hopes to engage as many citizens with different perspectives as possible. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
