30th Redwood Coast Music Festival
The 30th Redwood Coast Music Festival (RCMF) returns to Eureka Thursday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 2.
The three-decade celebration of roots American music will feature more than 40 performers – from national to regional and local acts – playing at seven Eureka venues.
“As an organization we are thrilled to present these excellent musicians after a two-year absence due to Covid-19,” said Mark Jansen, the principal booker and RCMF board member.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 29 with The Delta Nationals playing the opening dance set at Adorni Center on the Eureka Waterfront starting at 6:30. It’s the first time the popular local dance band has performed in four years. Dave Stuckey and the Hothouse Gang follow the Delta Nationals playing until 10:30.
The festival features four special shows:
- Friday Soul Night at the Eureka Theater will showcase headliner Curtis Salgado. Also on the bill is Bishop Mayfield, a popular soul and funk performer in Eureka in the 1980s with fellow Humboldt veteran guitarist Dave Storie. Opening Soul Night are Humboldt favorites Jenny and David and the Sweet Soul Band.
- The Redwood Roundup Saturday at the Adorni Center is headlined by honky tonk guitarist Dale Watson and the Lone Stars. Also on the bill are the Western Swing All Stars with Dave Stuckey, Paul Anastasio and James Mason; the Joel Patterson Trio and Dave Bennett and the Memphis Speed Kings.
- The Blues Night Saturday at the Eureka Theater features Sugar Ray Norcia and the Blue Tones with Duke Robillard, a guitarist who formed Roomful of Blues. Also performing will be: Michael Doucet with Tom Rigney and Flambeau; Jontavious Willis with Carl Sonny Leland and Joel Paterson; the Uptown Kings with Andy Widman and special guest Tommy Harkenrider.
- Friday Masters Sets: Jazz Meets Blues. This features one-on-a-kind collaborations with musicians for this event Blues harmonica/vocalist Sugar Ray Norcia will be teaming up with Emmy-award winning band leader Brian Casserly and the St. Louis’ jazz band Cornet Chop Suey for a set. Blues guitarist Duke Robillard will be jazz swinging with trumpet player Marc Caparone’s Back O’Town All Stars. American roots guitarist Joel Paterson and his trio will play with acclaimed West Coast pianist Carl Sonny Leyland and saxophonist Jonathan Doyle.
There will be free shuttle buses to take guests from venue to venue and back and forth to their hotels. The venues also include the Eagle House, Sequoia Center on Myrtle Ave, the Eureka Veterans Hall on H Street, The Morris Graves Museum and the Red LioN Hotel.
