20th Annual Charity Wine Tasting and Auction

Wine Event to Support Sanctuary Forest On Saturday, November 14, 2015, the Benbow Historic Inn will hold its Annual Charity Wine Tasting & Silent Auction from 2 to 4:30 p.m. followed by a live auction from 5 to 6 p.m. For over 20 years, the Benbow has hosted this event to support local community groups and non-profits, raising over $500,000 for schools, Hospice, the Healy Senior Center, Humboldt County Historical Society, the Humboldt County Library, etc. This year’s recipient is Sanctuary Forest. Established in 1987, Sanctuary Forest has “met the challenges involved in protecting and conserving over 10,000 acres of forests and streams. Sanctuary Forest is a community-based land trust actively working with landowners to protect, conserve, and restore land in the Mattole River Watershed.” They have partnered with diverse groups such as U.S. Fish and Wildlife, BLM, Patagonia, Humboldt and Mendocino Redwood Company, and NOAA to conserve much of the remaining old growth forest of the Mattole Watershed. They are now focusing on land stewardship, forest management and stream restoration. Entry to the event is $25 per person. Hotel guests receive complimentary passes. Over 20 wineries will be pouring new releases and older library wines including Stags Leap Cellars, Navarro, Alexander Valley Vineyards, Schug, Chateau St. Michele, Alder Springs and Antinori. The Benbow Historic Inn will provide hearty hors d’oeuvres including lamb and oysters. Silent auction items include gift certificates to local businesses, artwork, jewelry, hotel stays and a variety of wines. At 5 p.m., auctioneer Rex Bohn will take the podium inciting guests to bid on Napa trips, fly-fishing trips, stays in San Francisco, artwork, large format bottles and other unique wines. One of our most prized offerings is a 9L etched and signed Alexander Valley Vineyards “Cyrus” 2010. A similar bottle set an auction record in 2013 when it sold for $215,000 in Houston. Benbow Historic Inn is located at 445 Lake Benbow Drive, Garberville, California, 95542. Phone 707-923-2124 or visit www.benbowinn.com. Auction items or donations can be made at the Inn as well.
