Arcata Lockdown

UPDATE 12:46 pm:

Mad River Hospital says the lockdown is over and they are seeing patients as usual.

Arcata Police Department confirmed reports of a man with a gun at Mad River Hospital.  The hospital, as well as Pacific Union School and United Indian Health Services are on lockdown until further notice.

Parents are asked to avoid going to the school until the lockdown is over. 

Humboldt State University is not on lockdown

Arcata Police said that there is a very large police presence at Mad River Hospital right now.

Candidate Round-table: 5th District Supervisor

Thursday, May 20th at 6pm three of the four candidates met for the 5th District Supervisor seat gathered at KHUM for a round-table discussion.

The round-table was moderated by the North Coast Journal's Ryan Burns, with help from the McKinleyville Press's Jack Durham. 

The candidates are Ryan Sundberg, Pat Higgins, Jeffrey Lytle, and Patrick Cleary.  (Disclosure: Cleary owns a controlling stake in KHUM's parent company, Lost Coast Communications.  Citing conflict of interest, Sundberg declined to participate in this forum.)
