KEET's Love And Forgiveness Campaign

Last year we participated in the Campaign For Love And Forgiveness along with our friends at KEET-TV and they were kind enough to produce this excellent video explaining our involvement.  Thanks KEET!

Cliff, Amy & Family in Hawaii Part 2

Hi All:
We are back from the big island.  Still recovering from the jet lag.  We'll be back on the air Monday.  Here are a few more pix from the trip.  Enjoy:

There were loads of sea turtles at "A Bay" at Waikoloa

4 (of about 250 shots) I took at the Botanic Garden in Hilo

This is the caldera at Mauna Loa. Note the steam rising from the center.  There is steam seeping out of the ground all around there.

I spent a lot of time taking picutes.  This one was taken at Mauna Loa by my son Alexander with his camera.

This is inside the Thurston Lava Tube at Manua Loa.

Our son Michael playing with the black sand at Punaluu.

The big Island has several places that look like Mars. This is a "Martian" landscape with a few trees.  Looks cool!

We had a great farmers market right near our place in Kona.  Fresh fruit ever morning.  Yum!

The "Vog" (volcano smoke & fog) on the Kona side of the island made for some spectacular sunsets.

Arts! Alive Live Broadcast Saturday July 3

The Northcoast Journal is celebrating 20 years of "journalism" with a massive party at the foot of F street.  KHUM will broadcast/webcast it live from 6pm to 9pm.

It's not a question of how awesome it's gonna be, rather are you gonna be there?

Brazenly pasted from the NCJ's page:

"The Sounds: You may have heard somewhere (cough, Hank) that the night will feature the “Greatest Bill in Humboldt County Music History.” I can confirm (as I write this with a gun to my head) that that statement is a 100% scientifically proven fact. Ain’t no joke. If your ears are empty, we will cram them full of love.

First, headliner Magnum continue to battle The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the title of Most Important Band Ever. Don’t believe me? Recently, the city of Arcata was deprived of its beloved Theater Lounge when the band, opening for Zepparella, inadvertently burned-the-mother-down with the sheer force of their rawk. Sad night for Arcatians, for sure, but a testament to the power of Magnum’s aural Blitzkrieg. Kiss Old Town goodbye.

Before Magnum melts your face off, you’ll have the opportunity to get down to the toe-tappin’ rock ‘n’ roll sounds of The Delta Nationals. If there’s a more good times/dance/smile inducing band on the North Coast, show them to us. Between sets, local singer/songwriter Josephine Johnson will hit the stage and entice you with melodies and authenticity.

The night begins with the colorful-party-on-demand that is Samba Na Chuva. I’ve heard rumors floating around NCJHQ that the plan is for them to parade through Old Town and seduce Arts Alivers, like a Samba-ing Brazilian Pied Piper of Hamelin to the party locale. If you happen to be wandering that night, trust me, you will be caught in their percussive tractor beam.

The Eats: We in the NCJ’s editorial gang are often just as surprised by the ads that appear on our pages as anyone. At this week’s editorial mixer, we gawked at the tally of local tastebud tinglers that are allegedly supposed to be supplying the grub for this shindig. If this list is to be believed, someone up front has pulled off a cuisine coup of epic proportions. In advance, the NCJ would like to thank (deep breath) KyotoHurricane Kate’sVenlo Chocolates,AvalonRamone’s BakeryLost Coast BreweryMazzotti’s,The Looking Glass HouseThe LobbyOld Town Coffee & ChocolatesChapala and Fieldbrook Winery. Great Googly Moogly, ain’t that an impressive list!

In addition, the fine people at the Sequoia Park Zoo will be running the no host bar, with proceeds benefiting its furry residents. What are the odds that a primate will serve you your martini? Well, we’ll see.

In related affairs, also know that the NCJ’s own Barry Evans will be gracing Arts Alive! He’ll be signing copies of his book, a collection of his wildly popular Field Notes, over at Eureka Books. That is, of course, until we lure him away with Samba Na Chuva.""

Cliff, Amy & Family in Hawaii

Hi all:

Greetings from Kona, Hawaii.  We are all having a great time.  We have been all over the big island seeing as much as we can.  the highlights have been swiming with dolphins, a night dive with manta rays, seeing the increadable botanic garden in Hilo and going to the volcano and walking through a lava tube.  I am attaching a few pix.  Big thanks to Scatch for filling in for me and Jess for filling in for Amy and Luke for house and dog sitting for us.

Amy with a Lei she made in our lobby.

Fresh young coconut for breakfast!

A great Hawiian sunset from our place in Kona.

On the "Seawolf" on our way to swim with the dolphins.

A dolphin super highway right under our feet!

Manta Rays at night.  An AMAZING sight!

On our way to Hilo on the other side of the island. The water really is that color!

The server won't let me upload any more pix.  I'll try again later.
