Planned PG&E Outage On Saturday Affecting Parts Of Arcata And McKinleyville
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will upgrade/replace equipment at the Arcata Substation this upcoming weekend. The project, which takes place on March 13th, is necessary to maintain the integrity of our electrical system and meet the continued increase of electrical demand in the area. The work will start at 2 p.m. Saturday and last until approximately 12 p.m. Sunday, and will result in the necessity to shut down power to customers in parts of Arcata and McKenleyville.
Areas Impacted:
Southeast Arcata: Including Fickle Hill, Sunny Brae, Buttermilk Lane, and Old Arcata Rd south to Highland St.
West Arcata: Arcata Bottoms, west of V St and north of Vassaide Rd to the Mad River.
West Arcata: West of J, North of Samoa, to Janes Rd and north to Upper Bay Road.
Arcata: Customers from 6th St north along the Alliance Rd corridor to Simpson Lane, between J St and Q St.
McKinleyville: West of Central Ave. including McKinleyville Ave from the Mad River north to Murray Rd
No longer impacted:
Approximately 586 customers between Hwy 101, West to "I" St. and from 8th street, south including South G St corridor. This would include the traffic lights along Samoa Blvd., the wastewater treatment plant on South G, City Hall, Police Department, and Safeway shopping center.

So, Did We Get a Tsunami?
Answer: yep.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
** Update **
The Pacific Basin, including Humboldt County, experienced a tsunami this afternoon. There have been no reports of damage or injuries in the county. The first wave action in Humboldt Bay was observed at the North Spit tidal gauge (inside the bay) just after 1:30 p.m. Some witnesses described the event as a quick change of tides. Many witnesses said they did not notice anything unusual.
It is important to note that the wave action generated by a tsunami can last for hours. Dangerous currents may still exist and citizens are encouraged to use caution near beaches, harbors and bays.

Tom Mattson Re: Humboldt County's Airport Manager
Cliff Berkowitz interviewed Tom Mattson, Director of Public Works for Humboldt County 2/25/10. Mattson is the direct supervisor for Humboldt County's Airport Manager who came under fire in a recent interview Berkowitz conducted with members of the Airport Advisory Committee and Daughter of one of the March 1, 2009 crash victims that spurred concerns about the Airport Director's competence.
