Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

Press Release- Immediate January 13, 2014 Contact: United Way- “2-1-1” or 443-8637 211humboldt@unitedwaywinecountry.org The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program is back and better than ever with more volunteers and more convenient sites. Starting January 15 anyone can call “2-1-1” to make an appointment in Humboldt and Del Norte counties with VITA Volunteers- IRS Certified Tax Specialists. Tax preparation assistance will be provided free by VITA volunteers January 25-April 15, 2015. VITA Volunteers help low and moderate income households making under $52,000 annually in 2013 prepare and file their taxes electronically, free of charge. Direct deposit is a free option and it can take as little as 2 weeks in most cases to receive a refund. Our biggest and first drop in event “TAXAPALOOZA” will be January 25, 2014 9-3pm at St. Bernard’s High School 222 Dollison, Eureka. Continued drop in service is provided by Humboldt State University starting Wednesday, February 12 5:30-9pm in Sieman’s Hall Rm 119. Tax preparation assistance will be provided free by VITA volunteers January 25-April 15, 2014. To qualify for assistance a client’s 2013 household income cannot be more than $52,000 and does not have one of the following financial situations: married-filing separate returns, rental income, self employed individuals, military personnel, bankruptcies, foreclosures, etc The VITA Program is brought to Humboldt and Del Norte County residents by generous support from the United Way of the Wine Country(UWWC), IRS, County of Humboldt, the McLean Foundation and 30 community partners in the Humboldt and Del Norte areas.
