Storytelling Festival by the Sea

The North Coast Storytellers' present acclaimed storyteller Elizabeth Ellis, the warm and welcoming Mary Lawrence and the celebrated American Indian storyteller Frank Lake. The Storytelling Festival by the Sea will take place on Friday and Saturday, September 12 and 13, at the Arcata Presbyterian Church at 670 11th Street (the corner of 11th and G) in Arcata, CA. Festival Highlights include - The versatile and riveting storyteller Elizabeth Ellis. Elizabeth tells captivating Appalachian folktales and her stories of heroic women are stirring but her poignant and hilarious personal tales are arguably her best. In the world of storytelling Elizabeth Ellis is a “Rock Star” on the highest level – it’s like the Beatles were coming to town. This is a rare opportunity to experience the potency and emotion of a well told tale by a gifted storyteller. “The Cabaret” a new variety show for grownups (18 and onward) featuring stories and songs with mature themes from members of the North Coast Storytellers - plus musical guest “Squeeze Bug” (Lorna and Stephen Brown). There will be an opportunity to experience the thrill of storytelling without a net on Saturday with the “Improvisational Challenge”. Watch and listen as daredevil storytellers attempt to walk the tight rope between imagination and creativity right before your eyes and ears. Gasp! “Tales of the North Coast” will feature members of the North Coast Storytellers sharing some of their favorite local legends. This program will be recorded for perpetuity and you can be a part of it. Fans of traditional Ghost Stories will be pleased to learn that “Mostly Ghostly” with that beguiling apparition Carpathian, has been extended to 90 minutes on Friday night.
