Sounds (Like) A Monster
Original Jazz meets vintage sci-fi Films. Local trumpeter Nick Talvola brings together an ensemble of Humboldt Jazz musicians on Saturday, October 22 at the Arcata Playhouse to feature some luscious arrangements of original compositions by guitarist Jonathan Townes, with a backdrop of vintage sci-fi films. New to the Humboldt music scene, Townes is a seasoned player with a Berklee School of Music pedigree. His cinematic compositions are “perfectly textured sonic collages” that are a fitting companion to the evenings sci-fi classics. Joining Talvola and Townes are John Wood (piano), Shane Fox (drums), Alex Montesdeoca (upright bass), and Russ Thallheimer (tenor sax). The evening is titled “Sounds (Like) A Monster” and along with compositions from Townes, will include a few lesser known tunes and plenty of improvisation.
