Slow The Fstreet Down Drive Pledge

TAKE THE PLEDGE! On (traditional) Black Friday, November 27, 2020, Slow Fstreet Group will partner with Old Town Coffee & Chocolates in Henderson Center (502 Henderson Street) in Eureka between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm with a (Socially-Distanced) Drive Pledge and Information Table in order to bring about awareness of the increasing dangerous speeds, traffic and accidents that have been occurring on F Street, between Henderson and Herrick for over a decade. From February 1999 when Mary “Baseball Betty” Lacefield (71 yrs) and Bill “Sarge” Bayich (66 yrs) were killed at the intersection at Henderson and F to more recent accidents and deaths, F Street has become increasingly dangerous to everyone. The corner of Oak and F where Grant Elementary children cross has far exceeded the warrants (incidents) needed to put in a street safety device. This year, the neighborhood has pulled together to slow F Street down! We have written several grants in hopes of having Redwood Community Action Agency come on board and conduct an assessment of the area to determine what expanded safety needs the entire neighborhood requires since they last did a study for the school a decade ago. We are seeking safety pledges from our neighbors and those that pass through the area. By bringing down the speeds on F Street, we hope that you’ll notice that we are a neighborhood too - as well as Henderson Center being a quaint shopping area to stop and enjoy. We are giving away bumper stickers (while supplies last) and hoping that you’ll come support your local merchant by enjoying a cup of coffee (and pastry). Stop by and find out what we are doing and say hello! Slow Fstreet is a volunteer-run campaign promoting neighborhood safety and awareness. The neighborhood group is committed to working with the city and county to make sure that this residential street is made safer through education and traffic calming measures. Keep watching us as we work to make Eureka a better place to live and play!
