Skin Deep

In Skin Deep, a large, lovable, lonely-heart named Maureen Mulligan gives romance one last shot on a blind-date with sweet awkward Joseph Spinelli; she’s learned to pepper her speech with jokes to hide insecurities about her weight and appearance, while he’s almost dangerously forthright, saying everything that comes to his mind. They both know they’re perfect for each other, but will they ever come to admit it?

Written by Jon Lonoff, this warm-hearted romantic comedy is filled with lough-out-loud humor and sweet romance. “It was one of those rare scripts that keeps you smiling as you read it,” remarked RC Artistic Director Clint Rebik. “It’s feel-good theatre that has both humor and meaning.”

Director Cassandra Hesseltine (Kimberly Akimbo, Wonder of the World) was thrilled to take on the project. “I loved every minute of reading it!” said Hesseltine. “And with this wonderful cast, I am having a great time! I’m sure the audience will, too.” The cast of RC veterans in this four-hander is Christina Jioras, Dmitry Tokarsky, Susan Abbey, and Brad Curtis.

Daniel C Nyiri designs the scenic and lighting elements, costume design is by Jennevieve Hood, and sound by Jon Turney. Heidi Voelker stage manages.
