Sin in Soft Focus: Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933)

The Humboldt County Library - Based on the Book Film Series returns, featuring four classic movies from Hollywood's Pre-Code Era--that startling and provocative five-year period between the advent of talkies in 1929 and the buzzkilling Puritanism of 1934 and beyond.

The series continues with GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933 (based on the play The Gold Diggers by Avery Hopwood)

Three out-of-work showgirls are hoping for a job on a new musical about the Depression but soon find out that the supposed producer is himself broke. When young singer-composer Brad Roberts offers to foot the bill, his upper-crust family sends a henchman to reel Brad home. But the henchman will have to deal with the showgirls first…

Starring Warren William, Joan Blondell, Ruby Keeler, Dick Powell and Ginger Rogers. Directed by Mervyn LeRoy.

(1933 / b&w / 97 min.)

Hosted by Charity Grella
