Second Saturday Family Arts Day

Join the Humboldt Arts Council for Second Saturday Family Arts Day featuring special guest Nature Joe, Sept. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Morris Graves Museum of Art.

Nature Joe has been fascinated by animals and nature since he was just a larva. He studied Wildlife Science and Environmental Education in college and began sharing this knowledge as the Nature Counselor at a camp one summer. He has been teaching about nature ever since. Currently Nature Joe runs an animal education and exhibits company based in Eureka, CA. Animal interactions are available for schools, birthdays, clubs and other group events. Animal exhibits are great at home, in classrooms or around the office, providing added interest and educational opportunities.

September Family Arts Day participants have the opportunity to get up close and personal with Nature Joe's exhibits and learn about the various animals in the collection. In addition, participants view the current Corey Drieth exhibition, Numia, and then head to the Youth Classroom for art projects inspired by the afternoon's activities, animals, and artwork! Using found natural objects, participants discover creating works of art with unconventional materials, and learn techniques for sculpting animal-inspired statuettes.

Activities begin at 2 p.m. with a $5 suggested donation at the door. The Morris Graves Museum of Art is located at 636 F Street, Eureka. The Humboldt Arts Council thanks The California Arts Council –State Local Partner, US Bank, Schmidbauer Lumber, Living Education & Arts Foundation, AT&T, the McLean Foundation and the Sidney Stern Memorial Trust for their support.
