On the Threshold of Change: Rising Tides and Humboldt Bay

Redwood Region Audubon Society will host a presentation by Aldaron Laird, Co-Chair of Humboldt State University’s Sea Level Rise Initiative. Laird will present the sea-level rise vulnerability assessments for Humboldt Bay, and his mapping of the bay’s shoreline. His talk will begin with how the bay was changed historically, and then explore its current vulnerabilities and how it is likely to respond to rising sea levels. The landscape scale changes posed by sea-level rise will have a profound effect on Humboldt Bay’s natural habitats and land use. Alexa DeJoannis, Redwood Region Audubon Society Board Member, will describe how these changes might affect Humboldt Bay bird populations in particular. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:30 p.m. Bring a mug to enjoy shade-grown coffee and please come fragrance-free.
