On Smoke’s Wing

BLUE LAKE, CA – Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre graduate students present an original contemporary tragedy, On Smoke’s Wing: A Modern Adaptation of Euripides’ Trojan Women at the Carlo Theatre in Blue Lake April 20 – 23 at 8 p.m. In a city devoured by all-consuming war, survivors in limbo struggle against the inevitability of their fate. This original work, devised by an international ensemble of theatre artists, explores the timelessness of tragedy through a contemporary lens. In this culmination of their second year of studies and performances at Dell'Arte, ten actor-creators from Denmark, Finland, and the US come together as an ensemble in the heightened and harrowing physical dimension of tragedy. Dell'Arte International consists of the Dell’Arte Company, a professional, international touring ensemble; Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre, a professional training program offering a one-year certificate program and the only accredited MFA in Ensemble-Based Physical Theatre in North America; and the producer-creator of the annual summer Mad River Festival. As one of only a handful of rural, professional, Equity ensemble theatres in the United States, Dell’Arte is internationally recognized for its non-urban point of view, its history of ensemble practice, its work to push the boundaries of physical theatre in professional productions, its actor training programs, and its work in pioneering “theatre of place.” One of its deepest values is engendering the relationship between art and place, between artist and community. On Smoke’s Wing: A Modern Adaptation of Euripides’ Trojan Women will run Thursday – Sunday April 20 - 23 2017 at 8:00 pm. Performances are all pay-what-you-can, with reservations highly encouraged.
