Native Youth Mental Health and Wellness

Two Feathers Native American Family Services (NAFS) in partnership with Stanford Medicine Center for Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing, is hosting a four day virtual conference focused on Native Youth Mental Health and Wellness.

The conference will begin on September 15 from noon to 1:30pm PST and continue September 16-18 from 3:30pm to 7pm PST each day.

The conference organizers have lined up some impressive speakers. Four-time PGA Tour Winner Notah Begay III, will kick off the conference on September 15th. Followed by California’s first Native American Assembly Member James Ramos on the 16th and Dr. Kishan Lara-Cooper Associate professor & Chair of Child Development at HSU on the 17th. The conference will wrap up with award winning Lakota Hip Hop Artist, Frank Waln.

Dr. Virgil Moorehead Jr., Executive Director with Two Feathers NAFS said that the event is free and open to the public. “Our goal is to share information and highlight programs that assist with Native youth mental health, resiliency, and support, including the impoartance of school based mental health programming” Moorehead added, “Our topics will include: positive youth development, identity development, culture based youth programming, and stress management. One of the exciting things about this conference is that our local Native youth helped organize this event and are actively participating.” Moorehead said, “This conference will be of particular interest to Native youth and Native youth mental health program providers and administrators and will be attended on a Statewide level.”
