Fluidity: Bernadette Vielbig

The Black Faun Gallery presents “Fluidity,” an exhibition of new works by Bernadette Vielbig. Opening night and Arts Alive takes place on Saturday, March 2nd from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Fluidity will run from March 2nd to March 30th. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Humboldt State University and Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University, Bernadette Vielbig has gone on to exhibit throughout the country. The list of locale includes the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, VA, the Koehler Art Center in WI, the South Carolina State Museum, the Northwest Museum of Art & Culture in La Conner, WA and the Contemporary Art Center in New Orleans, LA. Now she’s returned to Humboldt and has crafted an exhibition of found items, film installation, sculpture, and more, to be installed at the Black Faun Gallery for the month of March. Fluidity focuses on Vielbig’s relationship with water, and other elements of nature, as a cyclical force. Reuse, repetition, and the feedback loop of natural process appears throughout her work. With a fondness for the discarded, items are salvaged with mercy. These recycled articles are then spared from their last stop in the waste stream. Vielbig’s meticulous gathering and arrangement of these found objects results in a surreal landscape of multiplicity. Dry humor punctuates this environment, using absurdity as an entry point for these complex conversations. In each work there is a reverence and an homage to the items that once were useful. In Bernadette Vielbig’s own words, “I am finally at a point where the majority of my materials have been repurposed, and I will continue in that quest to find beauty and appreciation in forms that no longer function.” The Black Faun Gallery is located at the corner of 2nd and G Streets in Old Town Eureka. The gallery is open to the public Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and by appointment.
